Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026
Detox AI ("we", "our", "the app") is accountability and content-filtering software for Android devices. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices. We are committed to an on-device-first approach: most processing happens locally on your phone.
1. Who we are
Detox AI is operated in connection with the detoxing.ai website and the Android application (package: com.detoxai). For privacy questions, contact us at support@detoxing.ai.
2. What Detox AI does
Detox AI provides layered content blocking and recovery support through four cooperating systems:
- Network filtering (L1): A local VPN/DNS service intercepts and blocks requests to adult domains across all apps and browsers on your device.
- On-screen scanning (L2): An Accessibility Service reads visible on-screen text and browser URL bars to detect and block adult content in real time. With your consent, it may cover blocked content and navigate away. This permission is used only for content filtering and tamper protection.
- AI vision (L3): An on-device TensorFlow Lite model classifies screen frames and optionally gallery images for explicit content. No images are uploaded to any cloud server.
- Anti-tamper (L4): Device Admin permissions, a local watchdog, and optional accountability partner alerts help keep protection active.
3. Data we collect and store
3.1 Data stored on your device (local-first)
The majority of your data never leaves your phone:
- Protection settings, blocklists, and policy configuration
- Onboarding quiz answers and self-reflection scores (not medical diagnoses)
- Streak, momentum, badges, and recovery journey progress
- App lock PIN/pattern (stored locally)
- Google Sign-In account information (stored on-device via Credential Manager)
- Intercepted-attempt logs and momentum breakdown (local history)
- On-device AI model inference results (not retained as images)
3.2 Data sent to our servers (optional / limited)
Server communication is minimal and only occurs when you enable specific features:
- Accountability partner alerts: If you configure an accountability partner, tamper events (such as attempted uninstall or service disable) may trigger an alert to your partner via email or SMS. You choose the partner and enable this feature voluntarily.
- Subscription verification: Google Play Billing handles payment; we may verify purchase tokens with Google servers to confirm Premium status.
- Blocklist / model updates (when available): Signed list or model distribution may be fetched from our backend. No personal browsing data is included in these requests.
3.3 Website waitlist
If you join the launch waitlist at detoxing.ai, we collect your email address, submission timestamp, and basic request metadata (such as country) to notify you when the app launches. You may request deletion at any time by emailing support@detoxing.ai.
4. Permissions explained
- VPN: Required for network-level domain blocking across all apps.
- Accessibility: Required to read on-screen text and browser URLs for real-time content filtering. Not used for any purpose beyond filtering and tamper protection.
- Screen capture / MediaProjection: Required for on-device AI vision to analyze screen content locally.
- Device Admin: Required for uninstall friction and tamper protection (Premium feature).
- Notifications: Used for protection status, partner alerts, and recovery reminders.
5. What we do not do
- We do not upload screen captures or images to cloud servers for AI analysis.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use your data for advertising profiling (Premium tier is ad-free; free tier may show ads via Google AdMob subject to Google's policies).
- We do not operate as spyware — you install, configure, and can disable Detox AI yourself.
6. Children's privacy
Detox AI is intended for adults (18+) using the app for self-control on their own device, or for authorized guardians managing a minor's device. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact support@detoxing.ai.
7. Data retention and deletion
Local app data persists until you uninstall the app or clear app data through Android settings. Waitlist emails are retained until you request deletion or the waitlist is no longer needed. Accountability partner alert logs on our servers (if any) are retained only as long as necessary to deliver the service.
8. Security
We use industry-standard practices for any server-side data. On-device data is protected by Android's app sandbox. No security system is perfect; we encourage you to use app lock and device encryption.
9. International users
Detox AI is available globally. If you are in the European Economic Area, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold. Contact us to exercise these rights.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
11. Not medical advice
Detox AI is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Self-reflection scores and onboarding content are for personal awareness only.
